Oyo Govt Impounds 20 Cows Over Open Grazing, Crop Destruction
The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA), in collaboration with security operatives, has impounded 20 cows in two separate enforcement operations in Ibadan over alleged open grazing, residential rearing and destruction of farm crops.

According to a statement signed by the OYRLEA Chairperson, Hon. Justice Aderonke Adekemi Aderemi (Rtd.), the first operation was conducted at dawn on Wednesday, at Batake Village along the Ibadan–Eruwa Road.

The operation followed a petition from Adewolu Farms, which alleged persistent invasion and destruction of its farmland by cattle. The farm reportedly cultivates cassava, maize, yam and cashew.

OYRLEA officials and security personnel who stormed the location successfully impounded nine cows, after the herders reportedly attempted to move the animals away upon sighting the enforcement team.

In a separate operation conducted at dawn on Thursday, at Idi-Iroko, Moniya, Ibadan, another 11 cows were impounded over alleged residential rearing and open grazing.
The two operations bring the total number of impounded cows to 20.

OYRLEA said the enforcement actions were part of its commitment to implementing the Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Law, 2019, aimed at protecting residents, farmers and lawful economic activities.

The Authority also urged residents and farmers to report suspected violations through the appropriate channels, assuring that legitimate complaints would be treated in accordance with the law.
