One of the former bank staff has come out to narrate how Tony Elumelu was among the bank principals who introduced name tags amd calling into the generational bank systems.
She said:
"I worked at the Corporate Affairs Unit of Wema Bank. The age - long bank had 2 phases of operational culture system. The " crude Agbonmagbe " version and the Rebranded version which kicked off at the tenure of Tunde Lemo as MD / CEO.
Then, the name tag policy was introduced to the system.
To stay relevant and "belong" to the new generation banking dictates, all staff were required to call one another by their first names regardless of grades and status.
I remember at a Press Conference , my direct boss Eddy Ademosu Head ,Corporate Affairs was lightly chastised by the MD for addressing him with a Mr Tag. At the start, it wasn't easy for Eddy but he got his confidence and became compliant with the New Generation banking realities.
Let me add at this juncture that Tony Elumelu was one of the New Generation Bank Heads that inculcated the name calling culture to the banking system when he was steering the wheels of Standard Trust Bank. It was a cruise and he enjoyed it while it lasted as a young guy!
I even witnessed the free inter - relationship flow between him and his younger employees at a bank function.
Yes! At work place, there should be a balance with official etiquettes and the "Omoluabi" in individuals.
The bible says in Ecc10: 10 wisdom is profitable to direct. There is a way you call your boss by his or her first name and still accord the seat all deserving respects.
As a Gen - Z , she must have relished being "free" with her boss. Unfortunately, she lost her balance and became fidgety.
Perhaps, if the lady had added a salutation like "sir" or a slight bow, Tony Elumelu would have been atoned....
What's your take in all of these???"
