PARIS, FRANCE — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hosted billionaire businessman and Chairman of Geregu Power Plc, Femi Otedola, for a private dinner in Paris on Monday evening, September 28, 2026.

The meeting, which took place amid the President’s extended working stay in Europe, provided a backdrop for the prominent investor to publicly reaffirm his backing for the administration's macroeconomic policies.

Sharing details of the encounter, Otedola praised President Tinubu's economic trajectory, citing several market updates:

  • Stock Market Milestones: Highlighted the inclusion of major Nigerian entities on the FTSE Russell Frontier 50 Index and record-high performances on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).
  • Foreign Reserves: Noted that Nigeria's foreign exchange reserves have consolidated around $55 billion.
  • Currency Stability: Pointed to the unification and growing stability within the foreign exchange market as a driver for foreign direct investment (FDI).

"At a private dinner in Paris with His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose bold and forward-thinking reforms have put our economy firmly on a path of sustainable growth. The results are increasingly evident..."

— Femi Otedola, Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria Holdings & Geregu Power

President Tinubu originally departed Abuja on August 30 for what was scheduled as a three-week working vacation in the United Kingdom, before traveling on to France. The Presidency confirmed an extension of his overseas trip, with Presidential Spokesman Bayo Onanuga stating the President is expected back in Nigeria ahead of national Independence Day commemorations on October 1.
