Olodo Uprising: Intellect doesn’t pay money – Singer Tekno

Olodo Uprising: Intellect doesn’t pay money. The same ‘Mumu’ Osuofia and Mr Ibu used to do, and we liked them for, is what Cartere Efe, Peller and others do now – Singer Tekno
Popular Nigerian musician Tekno has shared his thoughts on the viral “Olodo Uprising” trend, arguing that Nigerians have long celebrated people for their goofy or unintellectual personas.

Speaking on Yanga FM 89.9, Tekno said he had never heard the phrase before the radio host introduced it to him, but quickly connected it to how entertainers have historically gained popularity by making people laugh through their “mumu” or goofy characters.

He referenced veteran comedians such as Osuofia and Mr Ibu, saying people could watch them for hours simply because of their funny and unserious personas.

“What am I going to do with intellect? I can watch cater efe for hours and just be laughing at him just being goofy. Because it’s the same way back in the day when you dey watch Osofi and Mister Ibu,” Tekno said.

According to the singer, the phenomenon is not new, but social media has made it easier for people to turn such behaviour into money, attention and commercial opportunities.

“So this is nothing new. It’s just now you can do the mumu in your own home and get paid and get attention for it. You get deals and endorsement and what not,” he added.
