The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned commercial drivers and other transport workers against accepting parcels whose contents they do not know, after a bus driver was nearly implicated in a dr¥g tr@fficking case.
The warning was contained in a statement published by the agency on Sunday, accompanied by videos showing operatives discovering ill#cit dr¥gs concealed inside a bottle of Fearless energy drink.
According to the NDLEA, the commercial bus driver had accepted the bottle as a waybill parcel in Lagos for delivery to Ondo State, believing it contained only an energy drink.
However, operatives discovered that the bottle had been used to conceal C@losand methamphetamine.
The agency said the driver spent some time in custody and could have ended up in jail over the dr¥gs found in the parcel.
He was eventually spared after NDLEA officers tracked and arrested the person who gave him the package.
The agency warned that other drivers might not be as fortunate if they unknowingly transport ill#cit substances.
It urged drivers and members of the public to avoid accepting parcels without verifying their contents, stressing that possession of ill#cit dr¥gs can expose them to criminal liability.
“As drivers or whoever, please avoid taking parcels you don’t know its content because possession makes you culpable, that’s the law and you go explain tire!” the agency warned.
