ABUJA, Nigeria — Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and prominent elder statesman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has passed away at the age of 90.
He died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, in Abuja following a prolonged illness, just three days shy of his 91st birthday.
The seasoned politician and industrialist was laid to rest on Sunday, September 13, in his hometown of Yola, Adamawa State, following Islamic funeral rites led by the Chief Imam of the Modibbo Adama Central Mosque. In honor of his legacy, the Adamawa State Government declared a three-day mourning period alongside a work-free day.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo described him as a "patriot and colossus of public service," while prominent figures including business mogul Aliko Dangote and local political leaders praised his contributions to Nigeria’s private sector and industrial expansion.
Alhaji Bamanga Tukur is survived by two wives and 18 children, including Alhaji Awwal Tukur, the Secretary to the Adamawa State Government.
