The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) is making a major move into advanced healthcare with the introduction of robotic surgery services in Nigeria through Redeemer’s Health Village (RHV).
The initiative could help reduce the number of Nigerians travelling abroad for complex medical procedures while making cutting-edge surgical technology more accessible within the country.
RHV has reportedly acquired two robotic surgery systems — one designated for clinical procedures and another for training Nigerian medical professionals.
The advanced programme is expected to cover several medical specialties, including:

🔹 General Surgery
🔹 Gynaecology
🔹 Colorectal Surgery
🔹 Thoracic Surgery
🔹 Hepatobiliary Surgery
Beyond performing robotic-assisted surgeries, Redeemer’s Health Village is also establishing a Robotic Academy aimed at training Nigerian medical professionals in the specialised field.
Training is expected to commence in October, creating an opportunity for doctors and other medical experts to acquire advanced skills without necessarily travelling overseas.
According to the hospital's leadership, some robotic surgical procedures could cost patients significantly less than similar treatments in the United States or Europe, potentially costing around five percent of overseas prices.
If successfully implemented, the initiative could represent a major step towards reducing medical tourism and strengthening Nigeria's capacity for complex surgical care.
The development has also sparked conversations about the broader role religious organisations can play in national development.
While institutions should remain open to criticism where necessary, meaningful contributions to healthcare, education, technology and societal development also deserve recognition.
The RCCG robotic surgery initiative represents an ambitious attempt to bring world-class medical technology closer to Nigerians while investing in the training of local healthcare professionals.
